Home/Buyer's Guides/964 Carrera RS
The purist icon · 1991-1993Uncompromising motorsport for the road: originality, matching numbers, lightweight details, typical weak points, market prices and buying check.
The Porsche 964 Carrera RS is not simply another variant of the 964 but the uncompromising essence of motorsport. Built in a strictly limited run, it stands in the direct tradition of the legendary RS models and embodies a philosophy that to this day forms the heart of the most exclusive Porsches: maximum lightweight construction, a purist specification and engineering tuned for ultimate driving dynamics.
Compared with the standard Carrera models, the RS differs in almost every relevant respect. It is aimed at buyers who seek the unadulterated, direct driving experience and appreciate the value of a true collector's car. This buyer's guide sets out the specific characteristics, the critical points in verifying authenticity and the costs that come with it: magnesium wheel expertise, the aluminium bonnet check, matching numbers, and knowledge of the N/GT and Clubsport cars.

The body is a masterpiece of weight reduction. An aluminium front lid, thin glass (sides and rear) and reduced underbody protection save as much as 150 kg.
Critical points to check:
The M64/03 engine produces 260 PS. It uses hand-selected components and a light single-mass flywheel for a sharp throttle response. The gearbox (G50/10) has steel synchromesh rings and shorter ratios.
Weak points:
Consistently laid out for the racetrack: 40 mm lower, hard springs, uniball top mounts (instead of rubber) for precision.
Interior: Recaro bucket seats (worth €4,000 - €8,000 a pair), door pull straps, thin carpet. No insulation. No airbags.
Authenticity check (matching numbers): the most important factor in the value. The engine and gearbox numbers must agree with the delivery records.
Expert knowledge on the 964 Carrera RS: detailed weak points, authenticity checklists, knowledge of the variants, originality features that decide the value and a classification of prices.

The 964 RS is a statement and a store of value. But the market is small and the danger of a car that only looks the part is real.
Buy only cars with a complete history and verified matching numbers. On an investment of more than €200,000, the support of an RS specialist is not an option but a necessity.
