The RS icon · 1991-1996A cyclical course rather than a linear rise in value: historical prices 2012-2025, 95 documented sales from the MarqueScope SOLD archive (as at June 2026), recommendations for investors and enthusiasts, and the forecast to 2030 (as of 2025).
The Porsche 964 Carrera RS was built in two main variants: the Carrera RS (3.6), built from 1991 to 1992, and the considerably rarer Carrera RS 3.8, which was built only in 1993 and counts among the rarest and most coveted 911 RS variants of all. Alongside them, the June 2026 sales archive also contains the export offshoot Carrera RS America, the motorsport homologation car RS N/GT and 964 Cuprace cars; they are shown separately in the sales table.

Price development of the Porsche 964 Carrera RS (3.6): average prices (condition grades 1-3) from 2012 to 2025, supplemented by the median sale price from June 2026 (€245,000, 60 documented sales). The step at the current edge reflects the change of method as well as the movement of the market; details in the table at the end of this chapter.
95 documented RS, RSR and Cup sales from the MarqueScope SOLD archive (October 2025 to June 2026). Prices correspond to the last recorded asking price of the car sold; 180 records without a price and 6 records below €15,000 were removed from the overall export beforehand. All 95 cars are manuals: the RS, RS America and Cup were delivered exclusively with a manual gearbox, and the raw export confirms this without exception.
| Model | Sales | Median | Range | Median km | Days on market |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| 964 Carrera RS (3.6) | 60 | €245,000 | €159,000 - €555,900 | 69,076 | 45 days |
| 964 Carrera RS N/GT | 8 | €335,000 | €230,000 - €490,998 | 57,073 | 48 days |
| 964 Carrera RS America | 6 | €175,060 | €129,000 - €212,898 | 88,399 | 28 days |
| 964 Cup (motorsport) | 19 | €255,964 | €144,900 - €379,000 | 39,494 | 69 days |
| 964 Carrera RSR 3.8 (motorsport) | 1 | €900,000 | A single sale | 18,150 | 205 days |
| 964 Carrera RS 3.8 (recorded in error, see the note) | 1 | €159,964 | A single sale | 73,800 | 73 days |
The sales column counts listings sold; where the same car was relisted (recognisable by identical mileage, sometimes on a second platform or at an adjusted price), it is counted as one sale: behind the 60 RS listings stand 54 unique cars, behind the 19 Cup listings 18. Counted per car, the RS median moves only marginally, to €249,700 (Cup: €252,972). The two n=1 rows are not robust market values: the sale recorded as an RS 3.8 (€159,964) is, according to the listing, in fact a restored RS America, and at the same time a duplicate of a car already included in the RS America row (identical mileage of 73,800 km, identical initial asking price); genuine RS 3.8 cars (around 55 built) trade in seven figures, and the only RS 3.8 offer with a price in the archive stood at an initial asking price of €1.7m with no documented sale price. The 964 Cup and the RSR 3.8 are race cars, and their prices are only comparable with a road RS to a limited extent. The extremes of the RS range are not recording errors but effects of condition and mileage: €555,900 for a car with 3,950 km, €159,000 for one with 90,000 km.

A forecast from the 911Finder market analysis, produced in 2025 on the basis of average prices (condition grades 1-3): a moderate rise in value of around 4 % a year to around €240,000 by 2030.
The Porsche 964 Carrera RS remains an icon among the air-cooled Porsche models, with solid long-term potential for growth in value. The clearly cyclical course, a peak in 2016, a correction lasting several years, a moderate recovery since 2021, makes one thing plain: even with coveted collector cars, a linear rise in value is not guaranteed, and timing is a decisive factor. The forecast to 2030 (as of 2025) points to around €240,000, a sensible annual return of around 4 %; at a median of €245,000, the documented sales from June 2026 are already above that mark, so the forecast is on the conservative side. The combination of driving qualities and solid value development makes the RS (3.6) an attractive collector's car, one that should be viewed with realistic expectations.
