Motorsport genes for the road · 1974-1987Carrera RS 3.0, Carrera SC/RS and Carrera CS: variants, identification, originality, typical weak points, documents, market prices and a buying check for the most exclusive icons of the G-Series.
The Porsche 911 has always stood for the perfect symbiosis of everyday usability and motorsport performance. But there are special models that carry the motorsport idea further still: the sporting Homologation models. These cars were developed primarily to gain approval for motorsport while remaining usable on the road.
In this buyer's guide we look at three of the most exclusive icons: the radical Carrera RS 3.0 (1974), the extremely rare rally car Carrera SC/RS (1984) and the purist lightweight version Carrera CS (1987). As genuine investments with steadily growing value, these cars call for a well-founded basis for a decision.

Carrera RS 3.0 (1974): Thin panels with material milled away where it was not needed. Engine lid and front lid in fibreglass. Underbody protection left off to save weight.
Carrera SC/RS (1984): The Turbo wide body, with aluminium for the lids, doors and wings. Fibreglass bumpers and spoilers.
Carrera CS (Club Sport, 1987): The standard body, but without fog lights and insulation. Reduced underbody protection increases the risk of corrosion at the sills.
Drivetrain:
Consistent reduction: no rear seats, pull straps instead of handles (RS 3.0 / SC/RS), a spartan specification.
